so, i am going to do something mildly crazy... or more appropriately, considering the nature of what i am doing... Loco.
I will be giving up a high paying 8:30 to 5:00 job and travelling to south america for a year.
I am a bit nervous about it but this is completely overshadowed by excitement as i have never done anything like this before. The current plan is to live in Colombia, most likely in the capitol of Bogota, though i would much prefer a coastal city like Cartagena or Santa Marta due to my love of the ocean and scuba diving. I will be living with my Girlfriend who is a colombian and taking spanish lessons. In her field it will be easier to get work in Bogota, but i will keep trying to get to a coastal city hihihi.
So while in south america there are many things i want to do if i can get time and money to do so, among these are diving the Galapagos islands (been on the bucket list for many years), take a cave diving course in mexico, see Machu Pichu..... and the list goes on haha.
I had to rationalise my camera gear as my big camera housing is not travel friendly, i have sold this and the gates housing and purchased a small mirrorless Micro-four thirds camera, the incredible Panasonic GH4. This camera has 4k recording in camera (compressed of course but still) and is also a very capable still camera. As such i have bought a new housing for this camera and some strobes for stills and will reuse my existing video lights.
Still, travelling with over 60kg of gear to live in south america will be interesting, will see how i go in the coming months before i leave...
hmmm, no silliness in this entry
